A. The Plaid Pumpkin
Q. What does your website offer?
A. Soul Comforting Primitives: A lil bit of everything. The general store category has a constant sale going on as well as the scratched, dented and dusted category. We offer hand made soaps, grubby candles, prim dolls, seasonal, Americana...just an all around one stop...gotta shop til you drop site. We also offer wholesale.
Q. How long have you been in business?
A. The Plaid Pumpkin has been on the web for 5 years. I have personally been operating for a lil over 10 years.
Q. What prompted you to go into business?
A. I love to make new things out of old finds. My friends and family all thought I was crazy when I would drag home 'junk' from the desert and within a few days have it sitting in my living room. The more rusted and weathered something is the more I love it. Then I found that others felt the same way but had no clue on where to find the items or how to make them. So I began doing special orders and the rest is history!
Q. What are your plans for the future?
A. I believe all things are in timing. I still have to youngin's at home that need momma. In a few more years and when my husband retires we have our sites on a retail store in Northern California. Thats our dream :) Lord willing it will happen.
Q. What would you tell others thinking of starting their own web-based business?
A. TIME! Its takes lots of time...and DON'T get disouraged. Learn from others...and dont be afraid to ask questions. More times then not, others are more than willing to share their experiences. Advertise....links are a wonderful way to advertise your site and it helps others get their name out there as well..and best of all its FREE! and lastly...JUST DO IT! you'll never know until you try!
Q. What do you find is the biggest challenge for you?
A. BALANCE...I am an all or nothing personality. And anyone who knows me knows this. I have a lil bit of difficulty balancing time...you know...a happy medium where the house still gets cleaned and the dog still gets fed!!! LOL
I have found that when I put first things first I tend to be far more productive. Take the time to take your morning walk...pick up the house...do what needs to be done...and plan a schedule of when you will be on the clock. When its quiten time...QUIT..no matter what. Thats the hard part. Emailing...can take a lot of your time, not to mention listing and such. But you just gotta! :)
